Am I A Good Candidate for CoolSculpting?

Updated: Jun 13

CoolSculping is a treatment that uses cold temperatures to destroy fat cells. Fat cells are more sensitive to colder temperatures, allowing for the use of a device that targets fat cells only, leaving skin and muscle cells unharmed. The body’s immune system then eliminates the dead fat cells.

At Kenneth Sanders Facial Plastic Surgery in Shreveport, Louisiana, Dr. Sanders uses CoolSculpting® Elite for patients who want to eliminate stubborn pockets of fat without undergoing a surgical procedure. Read on to find out if you’re a good candidate for CoolSculpting Elite.

What is CoolSculpting?

Coolsculpting isn’t a weight loss solution. Rather, it’s a body sculpting solution, which means its purpose is to target problem areas to tone and improve their appearance.

CoolSculpting can eliminate up to 25% of subcutaneous fat — which is the deepest layer of fat — in the following areas:

  • Chin and jawline

  • Arms

  • Back

  • Abdomen

  • Upper and lower legs

  • Bra area

  • Inner and Outer Thighs

A good candidate is 20-30 pounds or less from their ideal weight. Results take a few weeks to become apparent, and full results usually take a few months, as it takes time for your body to clear out the dead fat cells.

What happens during treatment?

During your CoolSculpting treatment, our CoolSculpting Specialist applies a suction device on the area you desire to treat. You may feel some coolness and numbness during the treatment, but you shouldn’t experience any significant side effects or pain.

Most sessions last about 35 minutes, and Dr. Sanders' office can perform CoolSculpting during your lunch break. And, depending on how much fat you want removed, you may need 1-3 sessions.

Once destroyed, the results are permanent, because fat cells don’t regenerate. However, you should know that weight gain isn’t due to growing new fat cells. Instead, it occurs when fat cells expand. Conversely, weight loss occurs when fat cells shrink. So, it’s important that you eat and exercise right to make sure that the fat cells that remain don’t expand through weight gain.

Can I gain muscle, too?

If you have a few problem areas that don’t respond to dieting and exercise, Dr. Sanders can give you a thorough evaluation and determine if you’re a good candidate for CoolSculpting. Furthermore, if you’d like to also increase muscle mass, Dr. Sanders can discuss Emsculpt Neo treatments.

Emsculpt Neo is a noninvasive body sculpting treatment that uses electo-magnetic and radiofrequency energy to contract muscles at a high rate. These muscle contractions are painless and imitate what you would get by working out at the gym. However, because this treatment causes muscles to contract faster, Emsculpt Neo can help you gain muscle mass quicker. Each session is equivalent to doing about 20,000 repetitions with weights or on a machine.
