Follicular Unit
The FUE method of hair transplantation removes individual hair follicles from the scalp in their naturally occurring groupings of about one-four hairs and then placed in the areas of the scalp where balding has occurred.
The healthy follicular unit, also called a hair graft, forms the foundation for new hair growth
Graft
A follicular unit (graft) is a group of 1-4 hairs that are centred and close together. Human scalp hair does not usually grow from several scattered individual hairs but is arranged in small clumps (follicular units).
What is Follicular Unit Extraction?
Long gone are the days of the "hair plug" look from the 70's and 80's. Improvements include more natural-looking hair with longer lasting results helping you feel like yourself again while stepping out with full confidence.
Follicular unit extraction (FUE) is a type of hair transplant where Dr Sanders extracts individual hair follicles from your skin, and then moves them to another part of your body where hair is thin or absent. You’re essentially donating your own hair from one area on your head, and transferring it to another location, creating a thicker look.

How does follicular unit extraction work?
FUE is considered a less invasive approach to hair transplantation than FUT, but the technique still requires surgery. Dr Sanders will evaluate the extent of your hair loss, discuss your overall goals, and determine if you are an FUE candidate and if you'll achieve the best results using this technique.
Dr. Sanders uses a micro-punch to remove the most ideal hair follicles your scalp. Tiny incisions are then made in the recipient area, where the harvested hair follicles are individually inserted and transplanted. Finally, the area is cleaned and bandaged, and patients are able to return home for a brief recovery period.
Donor Area:
The donor area is the area of the body with the most hair growth and density and the area from which the hair is taken and then transplanted to the area in need of hair. Typically the best donor location for a hair transplant is the sides and back of the head.
Recipient Area:
The recipient area is where the newly harvest hair is relocated. This involves taking hairs from one by one (FUE) or as a strip (FUT) from the donor area and relocating these hairs to an area of balding or thinning (recipient area).
Reasons for FUE
Reasons against FUE
01.
No Incision
02.
Shorter healing time than FUT
03.
Good for Eyebrows & Beards
04.
Great for extremely short hair or military style cuts.
05.
Great for smaller areas or those who only need a small number of grafts in hairline
06.
Low pain after procedure
07.
Able to harvest follicles from anywhere on the body
01.
More Expensive
02.
Difficult with Curly Hair
03.
Can result in a thinned/over exhausted donor area
04.
Longer Procedure than FUT
FUE hair transplantation is a safe, proven method for increasing the density of new hairs in an area with moderate to severe hair loss. The procedure has a high chance of producing permanent, natural-looking results that grow out evenly and don’t look out of place.
