Time For A Facelift?

Time For A Facelift?

Billy Joel’s “Just the Way You Are” won Song of the Year in 1979. More recently, Bruno Mars’ hit with the same title croons, “When I see your face there’s not a thing that I would change ‘cause you’re amazing just the way you are.” Both entertainers could certainly write a love song that makes us feel all warm and fuzzy for about as long as the song plays in our head.

In an ideal world, we should all learn to love ourselves just the way we are. However, most people will look at themselves in the mirror and see room for improvement, especially as we age. Wouldn’t it be great if we could all stay young forever? Well, while we wait for a magic “fountain of youth” pill, more and more people are considering facelifts.

The question is, when is the right time for a facelift? I advise my patients that, within reason, when the mirror tells you. Is that aging face looking back becoming a concern? Are you content with what you see? Should you wait until you are older, perhaps? Or has sagging skin even begun to effect things like your eyesight, severely impacting your day-to-day capabilities. I meet many people that have an age number in their head such as 55 or 60. More important than age is whether your facial changes can be corrected with a facelift. If so, and you are unhappy with your appearance, why live another 5 or 10 years waiting for the “right” age.

The best candidate for facelift surgery are those who are in good health, still have some skin elasticity and have realistic expectations of the results.

During a consultation, I will discuss all the options available to you, how to prepare for surgery and what to expect after surgery.

Because face lifting has become a much better tolerated procedure in the past several years and in general some of my happiest patients are the younger ones that need less change to achieve the look they had some years ago. So, “don’t go changing to try to please me.” Change to please yourself.
