Myths and Facts About Skin Tightening

Myths and Facts About Skin Tightening

If you often find yourself wondering what you can do about the loose skin on your face and body without going through surgery, you’re in the right place. Our expert, Dr. Kenneth Sanders has a lot of experience treating sagging skin of various severities on various areas of the body with minimally invasive and non-invasive treatments.

Keep reading to learn some of the most common myths and facts surrounding skin tightening, and find out how you can get the best results with minimal effort.

Fact: Radiofrequency skin tightening doesn’t have to hurt

Dr. Sanders uses radiofrequency technology to heat the tissues and stimulate collagen. Best of all, the treatment is done with an individualized treatment plan tailored to fit each patient as it refers to comfort during the procedure.

After finishing the treatment, you can return to your daily activities quickly with normal appearance in 2-4 days.  Most of our patients plan on a "long weekend" just in case there is some residual swelling.

Myth: Skin tightening can only be achieved via surgical means

Collagen can contract and restructure itself when exposed to a certain temperature. As a result, Dr. Sanders can trigger rejuvenation in the deep layers of the skin by delivering heat into specific layers of the tissues.

Because collagen restructuring can take months, the results after a treatment that radiofrequency aren’t as immediate as the results of a facelift. However, they do become apparent after the collagen restructuring process finishes. Best results are seen after about 6 months with improvement continuing for a total of 12 months after the treatment.

Fact: Skin tightening treatments can be used anywhere on the body

Certain devices target facial tissues only, but there are also devices using radiofrequency that tighten loose skin all over the body. For example, Dr. Sanders uses the Embrace procedure to tighten skin anywhere on the body.

Myth: Results aren’t noticeable enough

Although results take longer to appear with radiofrequency technology, improvements in skin laxity are noticeable. Several studies show the benefits of radiofrequency for loose skin and wrinkles.

Understanding treatments for skin tightening

Dr. Sanders conducts treatments with InMode devices, which use artificial intelligence to guide radiofrequency waves through the skin and fat layers. InMode devices are minimally invasive and achieve skin tightening by heating the skin in its deep and superficial layers at the same time.  This is able to give a "shrink wrap" effect in the skin.

These devices also have a built-in cooling system that prevents overheating of the tissue. Depending on the degree of laxity in the skin and the location of the problem area, Dr. Sanders may recommend Evoke, Morpheus, Facetite, or AccuTite.

Each of these devices sends radiofrequency impulses at different depths, and each one is recommended for different areas on the body.
